Here is an example of an open pit mining operation. In the pit you can see the pit walls that have terraces, or ledges, that are used for roads for hauling out the ore. On the road, you can see the fully loaded haul trucks taking ore to the mill to be processed. At the bottom of the pit, you can see a large electric shovel loading up a haul truck with ore. Also at the bottom of the pit, you can also see the drills, which put explosives into the ore body to break it up for easier transport.
