    Comprehensive Study Assessment of the Proposed Mount Milligan Gold-Copper Mine

    Public Consultation on Terrane Metals Corporation’s “Mt. Milligan Copper-Gold Mine Environmental Assessment” dated July 2008

    The responsible authorities, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada, announce the start of a public comment period on the environmental assessment provided by the proponent, Terrane Metals Corporation, in relation to its proposed gold-copper mine project at Mount Milligan, British Columbia. Public comments are being sought in accordance with Section 21.2 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act regarding the ability and adequacy of the document to provide the information necessary to complete an assessment of the environmental effects of the project.

    Terrane Metals Corporation proposes to develop a gold-copper mine at Mount Milligan located approximately 155 km northwest of Prince George that will process 60,000 tonnes per day of ore. The mining complex will consist of the mine pit, process plant, tailings impoundment area and dams, water intake and diversion systems, on-site mine haul roads, explosives factory and magazine facilities, and other associated mine buildings and infrastructure. The proposed development includes a 92-km transmission line and upgrade of the 29-km access road to the site.

    Written comments on the environmental assessment as presented by Terrane Metals Corporation must be submitted on or before June 23, 2009. Please forward your written comments by mail, e-mail or fax to the attention of:

    Information related to the environmental assessment is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry at http://www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca, under reference number 08-03-39778 and titled Mount Milligan Gold Copper Mine. Further information can be obtained on the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office’s website.

    To obtain information on the environmental assessment comprehensive study process, or to register as an interested party and be kept informed of activities relating to the assessment of this project, please provide a full mailing address, an e-mail address or a fax number to the contact above.

    Please note that all comments received by the responsible authorities will be included in the public registry inaccordance with the Access to Information and Privacy Acts.
