Cullen To Bring Both Sides of the Enbridge Debate Together
December 23 2009 | News Articles | CFTK TV
Skeena-Bulkley Valley M-P Nathan Cullen says it’s time to hear from both sides in the debate over Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline proposal. The New Democrat says representatives from both Enbridge and environmental groups opposed to the project have agreed to take part in public forums early in the new year.
“Oftentimes an environmental group will do an evening event someplace, and then a month later, the pipeline company will come in and do a similar thing,” said Cullen, “but getting them in the same room at the same time is what’s needed here, so that people can really suss out the project and feel confident in their opinions as to whether they’re in favour or not of a pipeline going across the northwest.”
Cullen says he’s now trying to work out dates and locations for the forums, and a process that is fair to everyone.
Enbridge proposes to build dual pipelines from Alberta to a supertanker port the company wants to build in Kitimat. Ottawa has set up a Joint Review Panel to examine the project, once the proposal is formally submitted by Enbridge.
