Chiefs shut down Alexis Creek Prosperity mine open house

Tsilhqot’in chiefs protested peacefully outside the Alexis Creek Community Hall Thursday night to stop a scheduled BC Environmental Assessment Office open house on the Prosperity mine project.
“We’re here to be heard,” said chief Joe Alphonse. “This is a statement we’re making here tonight that our membership is very fearful of this mine, it’s going to go through.”
A small gathering of First Nations people drummed outside the hall, while some residents asked questions of Taseko Mines vice president of corporate affairs Brian Battison in the parking lot.
“We’re here to say no – we have concerns; we want to be heard,” Alphonse said.
“It’s a bit disappointing – there’s a lot of interest in our project,” Battison said. “I feel bad for the people that came out to get the information.”
