    A Stake in a Pipeline

November 23 2009 | Media Releases | The Globe and Mail

    Toghestiy (Warner Naziel)

The Wet’suwet’en people of northern British Columbia signed a declaration on June 6, 2009, along with the members of the Nadleh Whut’en, Haisla, Gitga’at, Gitxaala, Haida and First Nations people from Fort Chipewyan, to not allow the flow of oil from the tar sands in Alberta along a proposed energy corridor in northern British Columbia to ports and tanker routes along the Pacific Coastline (Oil Sands Pipeline To West Coast Gains Backing -Report on Business, Nov. 20).

The Wet’suwet’en have prima facie rights to all 22,000 square kilometres of our traditional lands, and will exercise jurisdiction in every square inch of it.
Any companies or investors that might want to support the Northern Gateway Pipeline initiatives will have to ensure that they exercise due diligence and meet face-to-face with the whole Wet’suwet’en nation prior to commencing business.

Assistant Negotiator, Office of the Wet’suwet’en
